AES Launches West Virginia Higher Education Super Website
Charleston, WV April 4, 2001 American Education Services (AES) today launched a powerful new Website, designed to help students plan for higher education and simplify the application process for postsecondary schools in West Virginia.
This free interactive Website, named WVmentor, is designed to provide students with personal, one-on-one counseling on the importance of higher education, as well as provide career mentoring.
The site provides students with extensive information on West Virginia schools, allowing them to search for those that meet their specific needs and interests and take virtual campus tours.
The students can communicate with those schools via the free e-mail accounts provided by WVmentor and submit applications online. A Career Center provides career resources, including a career-assessment section to help students find those careers that best match his or her personality traits.
Calculators, such as a financial aid estimator, are also available on WVmentor to help students and their families estimate the amount of aid they can expect to receive.
Scholarship searches also help to find available free money to aid in the cost of higher education.
Not only is WVmentor comprehensive in the options and information it provides to visitors, it is also interactive.
WVmentor's advanced system is designed to "remember" more than just the name of its student visitors.
The site actually interacts with each student, counseling them according to their interests, academic abilities, high school course studies, extracurricular activities and special needs.
According to AES President and C.E.O. Michael H. Hershock, WVmentor will help to dispel the confusion and frustration that so many students encounter when they are planning for higher education.
"WVmentor is helping to make the many facets of planning for higher education a pleasant, easy process," Hershock said.
"From helping students find a career for which they are well-suited, to financial aid eligibility; this Website is a valuable source of information for today's students.
There's something for each and every student."
Today's announcement was made at a WVmentor technology demonstration at the West Virginia Capitol Complex, which was attended by many prominent members of the West Virginia education community, as well as the state government.
This interactive and innovative system is available to students at no cost through planning, support and funding from AES, with no expense incurred to taxpayers.
WVmentor is accessible to West Virginia students and their families at www.wvmentor.org.
