Xap Corporation celebrates the 10-year anniversary of the online college planning system, CSUMentor.edu.
With the nation's first-of-its-kind student service system, California State University revolutionized how students prepare, plan, apply, and pay for college.
Since its launch, a total of 35 Xap-powered state, regional and affinity Mentor portals have been created, helping over nine million students realize their college aspirations.
Additionally, its success led to its inclusion as a recommended model for increasing access and improving preparation in the Secretary of Education's Commission on the Future of Higher Education most recent report.
While applying to college a decade ago meant frustration from flipping through college guides and cramped hands from completing paper applications, Xap's feature-rich online admissions process is simple to use, with comprehensive online tools that empower college-bound students to realize the maximum benefit from the college selection process.
"As a pioneer, we saw the important role of technology and how it can benefit students and our schools alike," said Charles Reed, California State University Chancellor.
Today, nearly 98 percent of the school system's half-million-plus applications received annually are processed through the Mentor portal.
Following CSU's success, North Carolina contracted with Xap to develop its own statewide system, CFNC.org.
During the most recent six years, North Carolina has seen its rate of college-bound high-school students increase from 57% to 68%, and some North Carolina institutions have enjoyed annual cost savings in excess of $100,000 from using Xap's Online Application Solution.
"CFNC.org has been a tremendous value to our 1.3 million student users," said Robert Kanoy, Senior Associate Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs with the University of North Carolina system.
"It has leveled the playing field for kids and centralized vast information into one location, making it easier for students to have the necessary tools to achieve their college dreams."
Since then, other states have leveraged Xap's expertise to build similar college-access portals customized for their academic populations.
Site features can include virtual campus tours, college and career planning resources, education finance information and calculators, digital packages of applications and transcripts, and online standardized test preparation.
"We are proud of the trust that colleges and students have placed in us.
This has resulted in Mentor being the most widely-used college planning and electronic application resource today," said Liz Dietz, Xap's Chief Executive Officer.
